1) Be prepared to provide proof of citizenship when about to enter Canada; this is a requirement for all visitors to Canada.

2) As a foreign visitor, you must make sure you clear Canadian customs and Immigration when you arrive at the airport.

3) If you must exchange you can get the best exchange rate at any Canadian chartered banks.

4) It's recommended to carry Canadian dollar travellers cheques, for they are accepted at the majority of restaurants, stores, and hotels.

5) Be prepared to know how to read road signs, for Canada uses the metric system; distance is measured in kilometers, speed signs are in kilometers per hour, gasoline is sold by the liter, and temperature is measured on the Celsius scale.

6) If you have to receive post while in Canada, make sure to have it mailed to a city's main post office. Keep in mind that the post office will hold any delivery for two weeks before returning it to the sender.

7) Learn a few basic working terms in the French language so you can effectively communicate if you come across French speaking service personnel.

8) If you smoke, bear in mind that smoking is banned on all public transport, in public buildings, restaurants, bars, and work places in British Columbia.

9) Be prepared to pay a 7% tax for all goods and services throughout Canada. Also, be prepared to pay another tax that differs from province to province.

10) For an emergency such as fire, crime, etc, dial 911; for information, dial 411.
