Travels to Hong Kong has become increasingly more attractive to tourists around the world. Everyone wants to see what the new modern China looks like. I have written down top tips to help make your trip to Hong Kong an unforgettable experience.
1) As a visitor to Hong Kong, tourists must have on them a valid identity documentation like a passport.
2) Although Hong Kong is a rather safe city with a low crime rate, it is recommended not to carry a large amount of cash during your shopping trips to stores; most stores accept credit cards.
3) If you happen to buy an expensive item, you can have it locked up in a safe in your hotel.
4) Tipping is not required for most restaurants, for they usually add a 10% service charge to the bill. But you can still tip.
5) Bear in mind that all local telephone calls are free; for emergencies, call 999; such calls are free. For long distance, you can use a credit card or an IDD telephone call card.
6) If you are in doubt about the level of safety of drinking water in Hong Kong, you can always purchase bottle water in the stores.
7) Always carry enough cash on you if you plan to hire a taxi driver; to avoid waiting too long, catch a taxi outside your hotel or at the taxi stop. Since most taxi drivers can only understand simple English, it's recommended to write down your destination in clear simple English to reduce the gap of communication.
8) Because of the convenience of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway, the majority of tourists are not so inclined to rent a car.
9) You can use the tram service which the oldest transportation system and cheapest in Hong Kong. Keep in mind that it will only provide its service from the Hong Kong Island traveling Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan. The service starts as early as 6:00am and runs until 1:00pm.
10) You cannot miss the fantastic light show by the commercial buildings in the Hong Kong Island. You can take the Star Ferry ride to see the harbor scenery.
