Italian police in traffic may charge on the spot a fee for violations. 8) Never drink and drive; penalties for drinking and driving are quite severe. 9) Bear in mind that the speed limit is 80mph on highways and 70mph on state and provincial roads. 10) It's a very good idea to learn a few basic words in Italian before your departure so you can easily carry on short but effective conversations.
