How? Take your pet to the vet and learn whether or not your pet is in great health. 3) Make sure your pet has had all the required vaccinations; also request a health document to take with you on your vacation. 4) It"s extremely important that your pet has a collar with ID tag containing its name, the owner's name and cell phone number. If your pet does happen to get lost during your travel, the tag may be the only way your pet of getting itself returned to its owner. 5) If your pet sometimes demonstrates a potential behavior problem at home for whatever reason, your pet may not be "qualified" for traveling. 6) When making your reservation, always double-check that pets are permitted. Never assume anything. If you make your reservation online, print out your reservation receipt that includes "pets permitted" details. 7) Ask yourself this basic question: "Is your pet an experienced traveler?"  If the answer is no, you should try getting your pet used to traveling; this will help make vacations friendly. You can start by taking your pet on a short car drive and making it a pleasant experience. Then you can slowly increase the amount of time and distance that you drive with your pet. 8) Always secure your pet in your car before starting. I advise buying a safety harness for your pet to use during any car drive, regardless of how short the drive is. 9) It's a good idea to bring a current photograph of your pet with you. It's a practical step if your pet happens to get lost. 10) Upon arrival at the pet friendly lodging, tell the check-in staff that you have your pet with you. 11) Once in the hotel room, cabin, vacation home, or condo, make it a strong point of never allowing your pet to use the furniture or the beds to lie or sit on, or sleep on unless you have placed your own sheet over the furniture or bed. 12) If you have to leave your pet alone in the rented room, always inform the front desk staff. Put your pet in a secured travel vehicle if a house cleaning worker will be coming along. 13) Be extremely careful when taking your pet traveling during hot weather. For example, leaving your precious pet in your car may prove life-threatening.
