If you are at a lost for wonderful places to experience in Rome, read the tips below for what top sites you can visit:

1) First, you do need a passport to visit Rome, and consider coming over during the off-season which is from October to March. Also, strongly consider booking your stay in a hotel close to the historic district.

2) Before you leave home, make a list of the sites that you would love to visit. This will help make your overall travel in Rome easier and save you time.

3) You can use a private guided tour or choose the TramBus system, for it's inexpensive and quite good. This bus will transport you to many beautiful sites in and around Rome.

4) Visit the Coliseum which is the most popular building in Rome. Either look around on your own or have a guide show you around.

5) Next on your list may be to visit The Roman Forum which has important history, for it was the civil center of old age Rome. This place was where vital activities such as religious and political took place. There is no fee required to visit this site.

6) The Pantheon is a fine choice: it's a 1,800 old structure which is still intact. The Pantheon was constructed about 125 A.D. by Emperor Hadrian.

7) Spend some quality time exploring The Vatican where you will find an enormous collection of books, sculptures, paintings, and several other items linked to the history of the Catholic Church.

8) Stop by the Sistine Chapel; Pope Julius 11 had asked Michelangelo to paint the bible on this chapel's ceiling in order to embarrass him; instead it became one of the greatest pieces of art from the Renaissance era.

9) Go to the Borghese Museum early, for there's usually a long line to get inside; there are many statues and paintings to admire.

10) For a great place to eat, consider Trastevere which has narrow alleyways and an abundant of eateries.

11) Go see the the best mosaics of all the churches in Rome at Santa Maria Maggiore which is quite large and close to Termini.

12) Take a lovely and memorable stroll along the banks of the River Tiber; you can take very nice pictures there.
